KOYI K UTHO

Agrupación bogotana que se dio a conocer en el año 1999. Desde entonces ha participado en dos versiones del Festival Rock al Parque (2000 y 2001), Tortazo Sin Pecado Concebido (2001), Festival Internacional Ibagué Despierta al Rock (2002) y el segundo lanzamiento discográfico de Ultrageno, entre otros. Este año representaron a Colombia en el Infusion Fest realizado en Cuenca, Ecuador.

Esta banda, que hace un homenaje a Mazinger a través de su nombre, pertenece al genero Cyber Core o Metal Industrial; influenciados por bandas como Cubanate, Prong, Fear Factory, Front Line Assembley y Static -X.

El virtual noise también juega un papel importante dentro de la música del grupo, puesto que este es un término que se utiliza en el campo de la inteligencia artificial para poner a prueba la adaptabilidad y sobrevivencia de las máquinas seudo pensantes.
La mezcla de lo orgánico del punk, la fuerza del metal, la rítmica industrial y los beats electrónicos. es el resumen del sonido de Koyi, con un común denominador: la agresividad.

Han grabado tres sencillos: Koyi, Digital y Neural Aggressor; actualmente se encuentran realizando la pre producción de su primer álbum que saldrá al mercado a finales de este 2003.

"What I want to know is can you watch something that can change you?" That is the question posed by Slipknot's M. Shawn Crahan, more commonly known as Clown. With one view of Slipknot's latest DVD, Voliminal: Inside The Nine, you will be shaken, jarred and have your attention arrested. And yes, to answer Crahan's question, you will be changed, because Slipknot are that type of band.

If any metal band has the power to educate, entertain and change lives, it's the nine-headed, hard rock enigma known as Slipknot. Since their formation in Des Moines, IA, in September 1995, the band has released three studio albums that have sold over five million copies in the U.S. Their latest studio record, Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), released in 2004, debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 album chart and has sold over 1.5 million copies in the U.S. to date, spawning the singles "Duality," "Vermillion" and "Before I Forget." In November 2005, the band released Slipknot 9.0: Live, a gold-certified, double-live album.

Before Crahan reconvened with his eight bandmates to start working on Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), he was already laying the groundwork for this brutal slice-of-life double-DVD. Equal parts revealing documentary, stream-of-consciousness art film and live video, the discs take the band's fans (a.k.a. Maggots) deeper into the world of Slipknot than they've ever been before.

Created and directed by Crahan, Voliminal: Inside The Nine offers reams of raw, gonzo footage shot across the world from backstage, onstage, on the street, in the tour bus and in the studio, offering viewers a true bird's eye view of the band. It's as though you've been granted unlimited, unprecedented access to the band. Unlike hundreds of formulaic documentary DVDs, Voliminal: Inside The Nine is undiluted, uncompromising and in your face, revealing Slipknot in all their joyous misery, and all their ugly beauty. "For the last three years, I vowed to get to the center of what I know I'm a part of, which is one of the greatest bands in the world today," Crahan says.

The first disc, titled Voliminal, is a 80-minute film made up of rapidly edited scenes shot on handheld digital cameras, for 28 months during the making of Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) and on "The Subliminal Verses" world tour. This is not a slick concert film with interspersed backstage footage. Nor is it a travelogue of fantastic sights and fabulous babes. This is survival in the belly of the beast. Crahan has assembled the shots into a dizzying cacophony of deafening sound and jarring imagery that's both challenging and impossible to ignore.

"My intent was to make you sick to your stomach," Crahan says. "It was said to me very early in my career that rock n' roll is 23 hours of hell and one hour of God," states Crahan. "I've always thought about that. So, this film is all that and more. It's seconds in the day. It's lightning responses to actions. It's that voice inside that shouts, 'I'm on top of the world, and I want to die because I'm so isolated and alone in a world that I never even thought existed, but rock n' roll has taken me here'.

Like the films of Harmony Korine, Voliminal juxtaposes seemingly unrelated ideas into a collage of disturbingly surreal reality. The result is a shocking, disorienting view of the thrill and terror of dangling on the precipice of the abyss. "It's vomit at its finest," explains Crahan. And that's a beautiful thing, in the world of Slipknot.

In addition to being savage and uncompromising, Voliminal is also a creative work of art. For one scene, a camera was fixed to drummer Joey Jordison's kit. When the drum riser rotates and flips upside-down, viewers experience every vertigo-inducing moment. Says Crahan, "I wanted you to be right there."

Since Voliminal was shot on handheld cameras, the audio is sometimes crackly and distorted, but that just adds to the cinema verité feel of the production. Take to the scene of bassist Paul Gray, which was shot at the front of the stage in a space so noisy, the band's playing sounds like mortar rounds detonating on a battlefield. "That's what I want you to hear because that's what he's going through," Crahan says. Ultimately, Voliminal will put the viewer and the fan at one with Slipknot.

Buried within the septic folds of the first Voliminal: Inside The Nine disc, are nine "rabbit holes" that viewers can access with their DVD remotes. Each "hole" will feature a short starring each member of the band.

The second disc of Voliminal: Inside The Nine features exclusive, in-depth interviews with each of the band members. The discussions cover 10 years of band history in unflinching candor. "The band is 10 years old and I felt that we needed to talk for real," Crahan says. "We're going into our places of choice, individually, and you're being invited all the way in. Hopefully you'll be able to stomach what is real."

In addition to personal band interviews, the second DVD will include bonus live footage taken from festivals and television performances from around the world and the music videos from Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) - "Duality," "Vermilion," "Before I Forget," "The Nameless" and the controversial "Vermilion 2," which was never officially released. Fans will also get an up-close view of the "death masks" Slipknot use in concert.

Voliminal: Inside The Nine, in addition to vividly capturing the last three years of Slipknot, reminds viewers that the band has only scratched the surface of what it will accomplish during its career.

"I'm not worried about going anywhere because we're only getting better," Crahan explains. "We constantly remind all of you that we don't push the envelope because we are the envelope."

Somewhere between where life's uncertainty and nature's fury collide, Dark Ages resides. Singer/guitarist Max Cavalera, conductor of the innovative metal mavens Soulfly and co-founder of the renowned band Sepultura, returns with Soulfly's heaviest, most flammable work to date. Dark Ages marries the band's aggressive driving force with disarming experimentation - Soulfly hallmarks that are as unpredictable as they are brave. Armed with the same core band as found on last year's Prophecy (guitarist Mark Rizzo, drummer Joe Nunez, bassists Bobby Burns and Dave Ellefson), Cavalera also continues the tradition of adding guests into the mix and blowing sonic boundaries out of existence.

The explosive raw quality of Dark Ages is palpable. While making the record, Cavalera lost his grandson Moses and also experienced the tragedy of longtime friend, Dimebag Darrell's death. "I think one of the reasons it's called Dark Ages is it's also somehow personal dark ages...at the end of December [2004] when we were making the record, with losing Moses and Dimebag, it was a very dark month - it was a dark way to end the year," says Cavalera. It's evident on the album. It's confrontational. It surprises. There's a battle brewing: with the chaos of loss, anger, and hate - like a dam about to break, jarringly juxtaposed against some unexpected spiritual moments. Heaviness meets nature - in all its beauty and brutality. It's precisely that uneasiness - walking that fine line â€“ which Cavalera wanted to capture. "Nature on one hand is beautiful, peaceful on the other hand it's lethal and ruthless as we see in tsunamis and things like that . . . Soulfly records are a bit like that: one side of it is very peaceful, very positive, very spiritual. And the other side is very apocalyptic, dark, even self destructive...I embrace the extremes."

As with 3 and Prophecy, Cavalera served as producer of Dark Ages. And it was mixed by Terry Date (Deftones, Pantera, White Zombie). Traveling to five countries - Serbia, Turkey, Russia, France, and the U.S. (though not intentional, it's symbolic as this is Soulfly's fifth effort), Cavalera recorded native artists as well as employed some unusual recording techniques. Turkey was chosen because "Constantinople was the center of Christianity one thousand years ago and I found it to be really exotic," he says. "I wanted to add some flavor of that part of the world on an album called Dark Ages." It was in that historical country, inside the ancient temple Haggia Sophia, that the disconcerting, tinny metal echoes serving as the outro to the speedball-infused "Bleak" was recorded. "It's actually people working, they're banging metal on metal."

Cavalera's quest to add fresh vibes to his love of metal continues throughout Dark Ages. Though Cavalera stretches the boundaries and adds many world flavors, the results are always subtle, giving each song a sound that is distinctly Soulfly. Cavalera wouldnâ€™t have it any other way. "It's unorthodox metal...I've been metal my whole life from when I started Sepultura, but it's a different kind of metal. I'm actually trying to create something new and trying to be a kind of scientist, like a metal scientist - fuse these things that normally would not fuse and see what happens when you combine them together. I love fast music, aggressive. I love metal, hardcore, and I love to combine them with other things. That's really my passion, making metal different somehow."

The cultural spice is accentuated by his decision to travel the world to capture the sounds within their own natural environments. While in Russia, the frantic "Molotov" begins with Russian lyrics. "In Russian it means 'Fuck the war, let's think about what's important'... It comes from the liberation of Russia after communism." S.O.D.'s Billy Milano makes a guest appearance as well on the song. Cavalera called Milano and said, "Do you mind singing over the phone and I just record it? . . . Even the distortion coming from his voice is actually from the phone."

Amid the darkness, there are also lyrics that inspire. A song entitled "Inner Spirit" is followed by "Corrosion Creeps." "Fuel The Hate" is flanked by "Stay Strong." There's conflict, a pulling between the spiritual and the turmoil. It challenges comfort levels, yet it can also be uplifting. Take the rhythmic rolling into full roar of "Inner Spirit," which blends the melodic vocal of Serbian artist Coyote, who also peppers the song with trombone into Cavaleraâ€™s screams. Likewise, hope comes in the form of "Stay Strong," which features meandering melodies within the urgent speed. "My son Richie sings on 'Stay Strong.' I'm really proud of him 'cause he sings his own lyrics and he's really singing his heart out for Moses and for his brother Dana."

A gifted maverick at charting new explorations, Cavelera gives a nod toward some musical influences he also enjoys in the industrial realm occupied by bands like Prodigy and his side project Nailbomb. With the explosive "Riotstarter" he brings all the cultural elements together with Brazilian, Middle-Eastern, and industrial rhythms making one intoxicating brew.

As is tradition for Soulfly, the album is bookended by a song that shares the name of the album along with a closing eponymous epic entitled "Soulfly V." In France, Brazilian French musician Stephan helps close the record with the peaceful and evocative "Soulfly V." Cavalera added the real sounds of rain and thunder to flavor the song. Soulfly provokes. It's metal for the daring. Dark Ages assaults as much as it does redeem. "The intensity. The drama. The emotion. The colors. The darkness. The melodies. The anger. The honesty. The drive. The new. All of the above and more." According to Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor, those are the things that define Stone Sour's passionately pulsing second album, Come What(ever) May (Roadrunner).

Stone Sour's first album in four years finds the band firing on all cylinders, and primed to capture the attention and the hearts of the rock 'n roll masses. Stone Sour's self-titled debut was twice Grammy-nominated and RIAA Certified Gold. It was an eclectic album, propelled by the band's busy tour schedule, the contemplative smash single "Bother," and a series of groovy, melodic metal numbers.
In 2002 and 2003, Stone Sour established itself as a multi-faceted hard rock force of nature. While Taylor is one of the most recognized figures in rock music, thanks to his role as the frontman for Slipknot, a Grammy winning, multi-platinum act, Stone Sour is anything but a side project. It's a full-time band that all members are fiercely dedicated to. Taylor spent much of 2004 and 2005 supporting his other band, but will spend 2006 and 2007 focusing on Stone Sour and Come What(ever) May.
Also comprised by guitarist James Root, who does double duty in Slipknot, bassist Shawn Economaki, guitarist Josh Rand and new drummer Roy Mayorga, Stone Sour is armed with an album that expands beyond the palette of its predecessor. The band was afforded more time to craft songs, and it shows. The album, produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver), is tight, crisp, and full of rowdy rockers and melodic numbers.
"With Stone Sour, I loosen up and show more of myself," Taylor reveals. "As soon as the fans hear this new record, they'll see it's different than anything that we have ever done. It gives me a chance to do the singing that I love to do, the type of singing that I do when I'm walking around my house." Taylor, a self-described extrovert, may be the mouthpiece for Stone Sour, but he insists the band is a truly collaborative effort, and that's something he thoroughly enjoys. "I've been able to blend into the background if needed, you know? You grow up thinking being recognized all the time will be sweet, but sometimes you just want to be one of the guys. I think I balance it fairly well, without killing people."
Guitarist Josh Rand, who ran 3-5 miles a day during the recording process to clear his mind for each day's highly creative atmosphere, believes that the diversity of Come What(ever) May, which features guest appearances from The Wallflowers' Rami Jaffee and Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin, will be what hooks fans, and what keeps them. "This album's content will fit any mood you may be in," the guitarist says. "If you've had a shitty day at work, you could crank 'Hell And Consequences.' If you need a little optimism, you could listen to 'Through Glass.' If you are feeling depressed, you could listen to 'Zzyzx Road.'"
Obviously, Come What(ever) May is a sensory experience, encompassing a wide spectrum of emotions. "30/30-150" and "Reborn" are bruisers that'll get the blood coursing through listeners' veins, while the first single, "Through Glass," takes up real estate in your brain for days at a time, thanks its unforgettable melodic twists and chorus. Try and purge your brain of Come What(ever) May's melodies, and you'll fail miserably.
Taylor concurs, "So many bands are so genre-specific these days. No bands cover the middle ground. If they try, it's lifeless and limp. Our album has such a pulse. The cool thing is that when we write stuff, it turns out catchy whether we want it to or not. It's just something that we do." He's right. Crafting melody and mixing it with metallic maelstrom is definitely something that Stone Sour does better than most.
Jim Root, who contends that "life" itself influenced this album and who claims he consumed nerve-shattering, tooth-staining amounts of coffee during the recording process, sees Come What(ever) May as a necessary evolution in the band's sound. "We're taking every aspect to the next level. As an artist, no matter what you do, you must evolve. That's very important to me. Some people fear change. I embrace it. This record is a testament to where I am at, musically and spiritually. Life is a learning experience and so is song writing. As with everything I try to improve. I can sit back and listen to these songs and know that I have."
Taylor understands that as his career goes on, he will be less and less understood and he likes it that way. "I've lost a little sleep over the fact that people don't get what I do and how I do it. I do everything I can to entertain, educate and infuriate the status quo. If I give the mainstream a headache once in a while, that works for me." It's that attitude that attracts the disaffected youth, the kids, the anti-conservative thinker, as well as the casual rock fan to Stone Sour.
"I have a conscience," Taylor says about his songwriting style. "I have a respect for the music and I have an agenda. I have an individualistic mind to botch the 'product' mentality, and I am not out to further myself in a spotlight that knows no favorites. This could all be gone tomorrow. If all you're doing is trying to build your Q points, what are you going to do when no one wants to see you anymore? At least I'll be happy about the music I left behind." The songs and music on Come What(ever) May ensure that Stone Sour's legacy will endure for a long time to come.

FESTIVAL OZ FEST

Mago de Oz Fest, Reseña.

Como les comente, asistí ayer 1 de Mayo a el Mago de oz fest. Me quedo un sabor agridulce.

Primero la entrada, llegue como a las 12 al palacio de los deportes y ya había una filota para la sección pista. Lo primero que note es que la mayoría eran chavitos como de 15 años (Mago Fans seguro) y había muchos padres acompañando a sus hijos. El evento con muy buena organizacion, solo con unos 30 minutos de retraso entramos al recinto.

El ambiente era bueno, empezaron los empujones para llegar lo mas enfrente posible y apareció la primera desmayada. A las 3 salio la primer banda:

Cage: Una banda regular, tocaban bien pero la voz y forma de cantar del vocalista no me agradaron del todo, me llego a aburrir.

Onassis`Day: Wacala, tocaban pésimo, la voz no esta tan fea pero no tocan ninguna canción buena, me aburrí a muerte. Lo único que me divirtió de esta banda fue lo wey del vocal, primero con su grito ¡¡VIVA RAFA MARQUEZ!! (aja ok) y después se bajo del escenario y al intentar brincar desde la valla para volver no llego y quedo medio cuerpo arriba y medio abajo.

Maligno: Esta banda fue el representante Mexicano en el festival, en general su actuación fue buena(o fue que después de onassis nada podría ser peor?), de todos modos me aburrí y no tocan muy bien que digamos.

Ahora si viene lo bueno.

Warcry: Es la banda por la que me decidí ir, su primera actuación en Mexico y estuvo de lujo(nadamas por estos ya no me dolieron tanto mis 550 pesos). Genial escuchar sus temas en vivo (Hoy gano yo, Alejandro, Contra el viento, etc.). Había muchos que lo conocían y coreaban sus letras. De lo mejor del festival.

U.D.O. : La verdad que no conocía muchas de sus canciones, pero tocan muy bien, lo mejor fue que interpreto " Balls to the Wall ". También estuvieron buenas 24/7 y Mission No.X, son las que recuero de las que conozco.

Mago de Oz: En lo personal el mago no me gusta, estos ya los escuche solo un rato pero ya sentado hasta atrás. La gente se prendió un buen y el palacio empezó a temblar, tienen 2 que 3 buenas pero no las conozco y no puedo opinar.

Como a las 10:30 salí del lugar con el mago aun tocando pero ya no me dieron ganas de escucharlo mas.

Rock in Rio Madrid con una inversión de 30 millones de euros

Globalizar es el objetivo de Roberto Medina. En el 2008 el Rock in Rio se realizará en Lisboa y también en Madrid.

Roberto Medina continúa caminando en dirección a la globalización del Rock in Rio esta vez con la realización del evento en España después de la edición de Lisboa, programada para finales de Mayo y principio de Junio.
La comunidad de Arganda del Rey, cerca de Madrid, recibirá a la Ciudad del Rock en aquella que será la primera edición Ibérica del mayor festival de música del mundo.
Hacer que el mundo pare a pensar y actúe para construir un Mundo Mejor, son los objetivos que Roberto Medina se propone alcanzar con la realización del Rock in Rio. En el 2008, las dos ediciones tendrán un objetivo común, "contribuir para mejorar el planeta a través de la acción Carbono Cero", garantiza Roberto Medina.
"Estoy muy agradecido al pueblo portugués por el cariño que me ha dado a lo largo de estos años y está garantizado nuestro regreso en el 2008. Sólo estoy en España porque Portugal confió en mi", dijo el mentor del proyecto en la conferencia de prensa realizada hoy en Madrid, en el Círculo de Belas Artes.
Roberto Medina también adelantó que la edición madrileña implica una inversión de 30 millones de euros. En Lisboa la inversión rondó los 25 millones de euros.
En esta acción, donde también estuvo presente el alcalde de Arganda del Rey, Ginés López Rodríguez y Alejandro Sanz, que además de ya estar confirmado para actuar en Lisboa y Madrid en el 2008, también asumió el cargo de primer embajador del proyecto social que, el próximo año, se empeñará en el combate al calentamiento global.

"Estoy muy sensibilizado y me da mucho miedo cuando pienso en lo que está pasando con el planeta", refirió Alejandro Sanz. Por eso, afirma el cantante, "es muy importante que todos apoyemos el Rock in Rio para movilizar a las personas, no sólo para la fiesta que este evento es, también para la causa social".

La Secretaria de Cultura, recreación y deporte de Bogotá abrió la convocatoria para todos los artistas interesados en participar en los Festivales Hip Hop al Parque, Rock al Parque y el Festival de Danza Urbana, que se realizarán en Bogotá durante los meses de octubre y noviembre, en el marco de la temporada Bogotá cada vez más joven.

La convocatoria abierta por la Secretaría de Cultura, será de carácter interdisciplinaria y estará dirigida no solo a las bandas y agrupaciones musicales, interesadas en ser parte de estos dos festivales, sino también a artistas en las áreas de artes plásticas, artes visuales, patrimonio y danza.

Serán en total 94 premios por un valor de 150 millones 700 mil pesos, que incluirán

Concurso distrital para premiar a los realizadores de 4 filminutos (un minuto máximo) ya
terminados que reflejen la identidad y la memoria de los grupos que realizan prácticas
relacionadas con la cultura Rock y Hip hop, y todos sus géneros en la ciudad (lugares,
cotidianidad, formas de asociación o aquellas particularidades que los hacen únicos frente a otros
grupos sociales). En lo posible los filminutos deben contener únicamente imágenes acompañadas
de música y texto teniendo en cuenta que se presentarán como cortinillas en los intermedios de
las bandas durante los festivales Rock al parque y Hip Hop al parque.
